I tested Hiarcs for iPhone by putting the engine at full strength and turned off all other apps. I used Fritz interface to enter the moves Hiarcs suggested. My computer has a 32bits processor. Rybka 4mated it in around 40 moves. Fritz 13 mated it in under 40. I didnt waste time testing it against Houdini. It is a fun program but some reviewer said it could draw with these big engines. No way, they totally dominate this engine. So dont buy it thinking it is as strong as a laptop engine. I did the same test with Shredder for iPhone and Fritz and Rybka mated it to but it took 50-60 moves. From my tests Shredder is Stronger. Dont believe the 2900 hype.
I like adjustable strength like shredder. Not sure if its better think it needs more board and piece choices . I would say top 3 chess app for iPhone .
I have owned Novag Constellation long ago. Hiarcs plays about as human as that model and is MUCH stronger!
Lots of fun. Great learning tool!
Not sure what the complaint about "default pieces" is. I play on iPad, iPod, and iPhone. Works great on all. Most human-like AI of any iOS chess game.
A vary Dynamic chess program
Its the best chess app so far.
Goes from much too easy to much too hard, with nothing in between. The app itself is not very well done, a lot of the details are poorly designed. I really wish I hadnt wasted $10 on this. The cheaper chess apps Ive gotten are better. Remembers the last file name you save and overwrites without confirmation, so its very easy to accidentally overwrite your saved games. Also, doesnt resign even when the game is clearly lost, or end the game when there is insufficient material to mate. Feels like a good underlying chess engine, but a very poor implementation of it. Definitely not worth 10 bucks, there are much better chess apps on the app store for much less. This shouldve been a $4 app.
great features, good analysis mode, handy portable player with good strength matching.
I have Hiarcs on my iPhone, iPad, and Mac. Its absolutely great! Better than shredder by far.
Love it! So educational. Fun to play against-
If theres one thing is like, its being able to copy paste text of chess moves or upload images of chess boards/ chess games and let the app go from there after some OCR.
So good, continually makes me better. Really improved my game. Started with it on palm at about 1100 ELO years ago and through the versions and years Im playing at about 2100!
This is a wonderful program that has improved my play - very educational. It indeed does complement the computer version nicely. Well done; definitely worth the money.
Its Ok, but need to upgrade with more ELO rate.
Endless hours of pleasant enjoyment & instruction. Solid app. Recommended.
Add a lighter blue (as tChess Pro default one) board please! Current board colors are all ugly (dark ones too dark, light ones too light)
I like this app, but the interface leaves much to be desired. Very limited customization, counterintuitive playback (or take back) of moves, and the bouncy movement of pieces all serve to distract from the joy of playing chess. I bought this app for the human like play, and it does that very well. I just wish the UI wasnt so cumbersome. Having learned more about the UI, Ive grown to appreciate this app more. Still, I dont like the bouncy movement of pieces. I must say though that I play this app every day.
